The Department of Computer Science invites applications for a tenure track position. The appointments will be primarily at the rank of assistant professorwith very competitive salary/start up funds and excellent benefits in a very affordable cost of living area.
The department has a particular interest in specialists in computer security. Qualifications for this position include a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field. Computer Security applicants are expected to have strong practical skills as well as expertise in network security, computer forensics, or a related area.
Responsibilities for the position include teaching at the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. levels, supervision of graduate students, securing external funding, and publication of research results. Our computing facilities include state-of-the-art instructional and research laboratories. This includes a Beowulf High Performance class system dedicated to research. Excellent opportunities for interaction with federal agencies and corporations located at the University of New Orleans' (UNO) Research & Technology (R&T) Park, and the Stennis Space Center in nearby Mississippi exist. Our formal partnership with Children's Hospital sponsored Research Institute for Children (RIC) provides additional opportunities for research funding.
The University of New Orleans (UNO) is an urban public university,and is a member of the Louisiana State University system. UNO is classified as a Carnegie II-eligible institution (this will be revised during the next Carnegie evaluation) with 40 million USD/year in sponsored research funding.The Computer Science Department has over 250 undergraduate major, and its baccalaureate degree program is accredited by the Computing Commission of ABET. The Department initiated a masters degree program in Fall 1991, which has since grown to some 70 students. The Department also participates in a interdisciplinary doctoral program in engineering and applied science. Curently over 80 doctoral students are enrolled in this doctoral program including 20 from the Computer Science Department.
