Project summary:

The SAPIENSA project is performed jointly by the VU University Amsterdam (http://www.thenetworkinstitute.nl/) and the University of Tilburg (http://www.tilburguniversity.nl/faculties/feb/organisation/dept/ism/research/infolab/). It is funded by the Jacquard program (http://www.jacquard.nl/) of the Dutch funding organization NWO.

In this project we will develop a methodology supporting the migration of legacy software systems towards SOA. Migration will be driven by the underlying architectural knowledge. The methodology embraces three phases: architectural knowledge elicitation, which derives architectural knowledge from enterprise assets and stakeholders, and provides the necessary foundation to motivate and drive SOA migration; service transformation using this knowledge to create new business services; service composition, which facilitates designing solutions as assemblies of services. The delivered results will be industrially validated to support SOA migration in two very different and challenging domains: enterprise information systems and embedded systems.

PhD positions:

One PhD position is with the Software Engineering research group at the VU University Amsterdam. The PhD candidate will be supervised by prof. Hans van Vliet and Dr. Patricia Lago. The Ph.D. candidate will research how to represent a SOA model for Architectural Knowledge including the patterns capturing the knowledge for SOA transformations, and the pattern-based transformation language.
