The University of Agder invites applications for a full-time fixed-term appointment for a period of three years as Research Fellow in Mathematics Education at the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Engineering and Science. The position is currently located in Kristiansand, Norway. The starting date is negotiable.

Current research areas in the field of Mathematics Education at the University of Agder include :
* Developmental research in the teaching and learning of mathematics (from day-care centres to the university level) * Mathematics classroom research * Pupils' and students' understanding, attitudes and motivation for mathematics * Problem solving and modelling in mathematics * History of mathematics * Mathematics teacher education and professional development
The successful applicant must have a Master's degree in Mathematics Education, Mathematics, or equivalent academic qualifications. A sound competence in mathematics is required, and teaching experience will be an advantage.
The Research Fellow must be admitted to the PhD programme in Mathematics Education at the University of Agder within three months of appointment. A plan for the completion of the PhD in Mathematics Education during the period of employment will be worked out in agreement with the university. The plan will include required coursework and the production of a thesis based on original research. The Research Fellow is expected to complete a doctoral dissertation within the period of employment.
The Research Fellow will be expected to contribute to an active research community that promotes the personal and professional growth of the doctoral candidate. The position places great demands on the applicant's capacity for independent goal-oriented work, ability to concentrate and attention to detail. Applicants will be assessed on the basis of academic background and results, and any previous research and development work. Relevant practical experience, personal suitability and good teamwork skills will also be emphasised.
