The work group KMD on Knowledge Management and Discovery invites applications for
One PhD position in data mining starting in May 2008
The group conducts research on several areas of data mining, including community analysis, text mining and stream mining, with emphasis on methods of unsupervised learning. We participate in a large project on RFID technology across the supply chain and investigate data mining methods upon RFID data for distributed applications. Our teaching curriculum includes mandatory bachelor-level introductory courses in "Wirtschaftsinformatik" (Business Informatics, on German) and several elective courses on knowledge discovery for students in several bachelor and master degrees.
Candidates must possess an academic degree (diploma or master) in Computer Science, Business Informatics or related field. The successful applicant should have good knowledge in data mining or machine learning and be willing to gain knowledge in one of the application areas, such as social network analysis, text analysis, RFID technology or logistics. S/He will contribute to the research activities, including project work and support of fund raising initiatives of the workgroup. S/He is further expected to support the teaching activities of the group for both the mandatory and the elective courses.
The official language of instruction for bachelor-level courses is German. Non-German citizens are welcome to apply but must demonstrate good command of the German language. Proficiency in English is mandatory for all scientific activities.
