We are looking for a skillful and hard working candidate with high academic credentials/results for a PhD student position within the area of mobile and wireless ad hoc networks at DABNEL (Distributed Applications and Broadband NEtworks Laboratory) research group, at the Department of Computer Science, Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada:

URL: http://www.scs.ryerson.ca/iwoungan

The PhD position is targeted at the following specific research topic: "Collaborative Attacks in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks"

And is concerned with the following research description:

In Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs), identifying malicious activity is very hard when one node misbehaves in route formation. If multiple nodes cooperate maliciously, simultaneously, or alternately, the schemes to deal with them become slow at most nodes. The general objective of this PhD research work is targeted towards addressing issues of characterizing, modeling, and defense against coordinated/collaborative attacks for MANETs, by investigating detection and prevention mechanisms for various types of attacks, and conducting various experiments and simulations to assess the associated derived attack models. This research project is expected to significantly contribute the advancement of knowledge in security in multihop wireless networks.

The chosen PhD candidate is expected to be enrolled in the 4-year PhD-program of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Ryerson University with the possible start date in Winter 2010 . The PhD degree will be awarded by Ryerson University. Information on the application can be found at:

http://www.ryerson.ca/graduate/admissions/

PREREQUISITES:

  • Good Master's degree in the area of computer and network security or

closely related areas.

  • Good mathematical and problem solving skills
  • Strong experience with network related simulation tools
  • Quick learner and excellent communication skills
  • Good knowledge of English (both writing and speaking)
  • Critical analysis and independent research are also expected

APPLICATIONS:

Interested candidates should first send **by email only**, preferably by Dec, 15, 2009:

  1. An application letter, justifying their interest in this position
  2. A detailed CV, including a list of courses completed and marks received (copy of transcripts required)
  3. An electronic copy of any relevant material (such as recommendation letters, etc)
