The Database Systems Group at the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg (Germany) is offering one fully funded PhD position and one fully funded PostDoc position, all effective immediately. Research topics of the group include scientific data management (with a focus on applications in the physical sciences and the geosciences), spatial and temporal data management, and information retrieval.
These two positions have a strong focus on research and development activities in the area of scientific data management, with a particular focus on the management and analysis of spatial, spatio-temporal, and streaming data.
Requirements:
- MSc in Computer Science or related area (for the PhD position); PhD in Computer Science or related area (for the PostDoc position)
- Background in scientific data management, database design, and database interoperability
- Experience in developing, testing, and deploying Web-based, database-driven (GIS) applications
- Demonstrated programming experience in Java and/or C++
- Excellent English skills, good knowledge of German
- Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills
- Interest in teaching exercise groups and labs, and supporting research seminars
- Good publication record (for the PostDoc position)
Salary: The salary for these positions is based on the German standards salary scale TV-L E13 (Ph.D. position) and TV-L E14 (PostDoc position), full-time
