The Information and Language Processing Systems group at the University of Amsterdam has vacancies for one scientific programmer and two fully funded PhD students; all are 4-year positions. The vacancies are funded by the FOX and Bridge projects. Within the Foundations of XML (FOX) project the University of Amsterdam is responsible for the integration of navigational/structural queries and text search queries. The main research challenge is to deal with the uncertainty caused by methods from Information Retrieval, and the ranking of answers by relevance to a query. The programmer and PhD student to be employed on the Building Rich Links to Enable Television History Research (Bridge) project will develop innovative ways of creating meaningful links between dynamically expanding archived television data and other information sources; the links are text-based and centered around entities, themes and events.
For more information, please visit the group's home page at http://ilps.science.uva.nl, where you will find short project descriptions and links to the University's official vacancy site with application details. The deadline for applications is March 23, 2009.
