The Department of Applied IT announces a vacant PhD position for the research project “Participatory governance and science-policy interactions in Baltic Sea fisheries governance”

The project studies the evolution, dynamics and effectiveness of multi-stakeholder networks in the governance of Baltic Sea fisheries.

Job description

Governance of limited resources by multi-national stakeholders requires a complex mix of communication, science, consensus formation, and local knowledge. The successful candidate for this position will examine the effects of different knowledge and information systems on negotiation and consensus building processes in governance of the Baltic Sea fisheries.

The research will consist of two parts: One part will address the evolution, dynamics and effectiveness of multi-stakeholder networks on the national and international level. The other part will analyse the process by which information is communicated, understood, and used within and between those networks. The holder of the position will pursue his/her doctoral studies full-time and is expected to participate actively in departmental activities, by attending seminars, etc. The position might also entail teaching and other assignments. The candidate should be prepared to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment with a focus on applied research.

Qualifications

The basic qualification for admission is a master’s degree in computer science/informatics/information technology (or related subject), or equivalent knowledge acquired by other means. The project draws upon network analysis and communication theory, as well as political sociology, marine science, ethnography, and statistics.
