The Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (CSEE) at Luleå University of Technology (LTU), Sweden, has a position available as PhD student in the area of electromagnetic modelling.
Research area
Electromagnetic (EM) modelling techniques are used to predict high frequency behavior of electronic systems in the design phase. With increasing customer demands on performance and reliability, the area is an emerging research field with numerous industrial applications.
Research on EM modelling at the Dept. of CSEE is focused on the development of the Partial Element Equivalent Circuit (PEEC) method for realistic system modelling. The work is carried out with world leading research institutes and universities and extensions are implemented in a code (C/C++) maintained by LTU. The research will be carried out within Combined circuit and electromagnetic Modelling. In the PEEC method, the electromagnetic problem is formulated and solved in the circuit domain. For this purpose, a powerful circuit solver is needed. The goal of this project is to implement a SPICE-type circuit solver capable of handling common circuit elements in the existing PEEC-code for improved speed and flexibility. Challenges are (i) to combine the basic circuit solver (SPICE-type) with the electromagnetic model (PEEC-type) due to its different properties, (ii) stability and passivity for the combined models, and (iii) to develop a stable and robust formulation that allows the use of the results for our industry partners. The existing circuit solver can be used as support and for verification purposes.
Our aim is to expand our successful work in the area of PEEC-based modelling by providing a robust and powerful computer code for mixed circuit and electromagnetic modelling.
