A post-doctoral position is available at Pathway Engineering Laboratory of Bioinformatics Center, Kyoto University. The pathway engineering laboratory has developed original data mining/machine learning techniques for complex data in real world applications, particularly molecular biology. Along this line, the laboratory seeks a candidate who will be engaged in research on mining new knowledge from multiple data sources in biology, especially those related with genes and small chemical compounds.
The candidate should have a Ph.D. and solid technical experience in a field in computer science, such as machine learning, data mining, algorithmics, combinatorics and numerical computation, or a similar quantitative area of study such as statistics. The applicant should be enthusiastic and energetic in doing new research in bioinformatics and should have sufficient programming skills in C, C++ or Java.
The position is for one year but renewable by mutual agreement, until as late as September 2010.
Kyoto University's Bioinformatics Center is situated 15 km south of downtown Kyoto and 40 km north of the center of Nara, and is thus conveniently located close to Japan's two most famous historical cities. The location is ideal to both enjoy Japan's traditional beauty and to devote yourself to research in bioinformatics.
