The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University of Melbourne has an opening for a post-doctoral research fellow in the area of databases. The fellow is supported by a research grant from the Australian Research Council Discovery Projects scheme for up to three years.
The position requires a PhD degree in Computer Science or a related discipline with research experience in database technologies documented by a track record of top quality publications. Expertise in sequence data or time series data management is preferable but not required for the position. The fellow will be working with a team of academics and PhD students. Strong written and verbal communication skills are expected. The project demands both theoretical and experimental database research skills.
The key responsibility of the fellow is to conduct research, under limited supervision, with the project team members and is expected to publish scholarly papers at highly ranked outlets. The fellow is also expected to give presentations at well-established conferences. In addition, the researcher will perform certain limited administrative functions. These functions include PhD student co-supervision and limited teaching support related to the project areas.
The project team comprises of leading researchers in databases and data mining, headed by Prof. Rao Kotagiri. The team members include Dr. Rui Zhang and Dr. James Bailey.
The position will soon be announced at the University of Melbourne website and other venues. The fellow will have a salary ranging from AUD 48,260 to AUD 81,863 depending on the qualifications (Grade Level 1 to 2 at the University of Melbourne salary scales).
