The Computer Systems Group (www.cs.vu.nl/en/sec/cs/) led by Prof. Andrew Tanenbaum, in the Computer Science Dept. (www.cs.vu.nl) at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (www.vu.nl) is looking for 1 Postdoc in computer security. Initially the position is for 2 years with a possible extension to a third year. The successful candidates must have a PhD in security and a strong publication record in the area of security. He or she must be capable of working in a team as well as proposing and pursuing new research topics. The Postdoc will also help supervising Ph.D. and Masters students. A small amount of teaching in security topics may be required as well.

Projects Description

The PostDoc will be appointed to carry out research within the project S-Mobile funded by the Dutch security programme Sentinels (www.sentinels.nl)) The objective of S-Mobile is to design and prototype a framework and technological solutions for trusted deployment and execution of mobile applications in heterogeneous environments. A policy-based security mechanism will lie at the core of the framework. A policy will be associated to each application stating in detail what are the capabilities needed to be executed. A policy is a fine-grained claim done by a mobile application regarding the interaction with relevant security and privacy features of a mobile platform. Aim of the project is to develop solutions to assure that the policy will be enforced at time of delivery and loading, and during execution of the application by the mobile platform. The resulting new paradigm will support policies, thus applications, that cannot be supported by the actual security model. The project is conducted jointly with Technical University of Eindhoven, and with the participation of Philips Research and TNO telecom. Besides the Postdoc, VUA team will be comprise also a scientific programmer to prototype and validate the proposed solutions.

Salary depends on education and experience in conformance with university rules. This position is initially for two years. Starting date: Fall 2008.
