We offer a research assistant position in the research group Context and Attention in Personalized Learning Experiences of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT). Applicants should hold a master degree in computer science.
Fraunhofer FIT is situated in Sankt Augustin, only a few kilometers from Germany's former capitol Bonn (http://www.bonn.de/index.html?lang=en). It provides an excellent environment for world-class applied research, situated on the grounds of the castle Schloss Birlinghoven. The nearby beautiful Rhine-Valley provides excellent opportunities for relaxation thus enabling scientific discussion in most beautiful settings.
The research group concentrates on the processing of observations about the handling of digital information by users. We aim to identify behavioral patterns and ultimately user tasks on the basis of such observations to enable, for example, more precise user models and personal digital assistants. It is necessary to develop methods and algorithms used for the storage and analysis of large data streams of highly complex data structures in real time. Using Semantic Web technologies, the patterns are extended with additional information. Furthermore, research will identify if and how common network and advanced P2P technologies will enable the secure exchange of data.
We expect an excellent degree in computer science or a related field from the candidate for the computer science position. The candidate has expertise in the management and programming of relational and object-oriented databases, technologies for data mining and statistical analysis. In addition, experience in software development using programming languages like Java, C and PHP is welcome.
We expect the willingness to deal with new application areas such as Technology Enhanced Learning and Recommender systems. Experience with web-based information systems and user modeling is very welcome, but not a prerequisite. We offer the opportunity to further scientific and economic qualifications, e.g. obtaining the PhD degree. The payment follows the German public service tariff agreement (TVoeD up to EG14 with a yearly salary around 35.000EUR, depending on qualification). The post is initially limited to 2 years.
Disabled people with equal qualifications are preferred. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is an equal opportunities employer. The positions can be part-time.
